neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

Welcome to

Learn how to work with your brain instead of against it, embrace your strengths, and find tools to overcome your struggles with therapy for neurodivergent humans.

Being neurodivergent can leave you feeling out of sync and out of step with the world around you–true connection and thriving can often feel out of reach. When you struggle to find the words that match your ideas and experiences, life can feel confusing. It can be really distressing to feel like no one else can understand you or follow your thoughts, and be told to not take everything so literally. You may even feel overwhelmed by things that others seem to be unbothered by, perhaps even unable to move on until there is a resolution. Maybe you even struggle to stay focused on the things that excite you due to energy slumps, feeling stuck, or simply being interested in so many different things.

Hi my name is Thomas Largent, LMHCA, and working with people who are neurodivergent is extremely personal for me. I have walked the path of neurodivergence myself. I know how vulnerable and tricky it can be to trust a therapist and believe that connection, understanding, and friendship are possible for you. I have helped numerous people with similar stories and I’m here for you. If any of this sounds like something you can relate to, therapy could be right for you and I would love to be your therapist.

Support Is Here

In therapy with me, we’ll work together to help you feel more confident around others and to find the  words that seem to always have been missing. I also hope to help you feel understood, rediscover and relocate your joy in life, as well as build better relationships. I’ll share with you tools to strengthen your  executive functioning skills and reduce your overwhelm.

I want to be clear, there is no such thing as normal, you are you, not anyone else. Therapy is not a one size fits all treatment and it typically takes several sessions to see lasting improvement, but you will be heard, seen, and valued from the beginning of our first session to the end of our time. I take a “Yes, and…” approach which means that I acknowledge how difficult things can be while also acknowledging the areas in which we can control and work on.

While diagnoses are helpful, they don’t always paint the full picture. I approach sessions focused on you, not strictly your diagnosis. I will meet you where you are at and be nothing more and nothing less than what you need. I believe that if you have the right tools and support you can do anything, including being the best version of yourself.

Some of these tools include:

  • Identifying brain-based strengths you can embrace & leverage

  • Expanding self-acceptance for difficulties &/or differences that are part of your neurodivergence

  • Finding pathways for action steps to complete the things that are important as well as the things that will fill you up with joy

  • Roleplaying or practicing tricky situations

  • Strategies for strengthening your ability to communicate effectively & authentically
